History/Who We Are
Our Journey started on March 15, 1954 when The Detroit Baptist Missionary Society elected board members to the "Detroit Baptist Home for the Aged" (The primary aim of the Manor's inception being service to low-income seniors, generous donations played a vital role in accomplishment of The Primary Aim.)
The Baptist Manor reached its first milestone in 1972 when the 101-unit Alpha Building opened its arms to embrace the needy. The federally assisted HUD program extended its assistance to enable a senior of 65 years and above and annual income of $4000-$6000 to live in a secure, full-service retirement village.
Along came the second milestone in 1976 when the 150-unit HUD subsidized Gamma Building graciously shared responsiblity with Alpha in taking care of physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs of seniors in the community.
1980 saw the emergence of the Epsilon Building, eagerly enegetic to serve the community along with its predecessors. It is a subsidized housing project under Section 202 of the National Housing Act.
Drake developed on the above lines but off the main campus in the year 1983.
Haworth Center happily joined the team in 1988 to provide a continuum of care. It is a 59 bed licensed Home for the Aged.
We are still continuing our journey and serving thousands of seniors en route, just like a river quenches the thirst of millions of living beings during its journey from mountain top to ocean, and getting immense satisfaction there from.
